The Last Days....are we living in them?
Should we be asking about it? Some absolutely scoff at any suggestion that we are very near the time of Jesus' return prophesied about in the bible. Perhaps they, or you, have seen and read about the many false prophecies of man concerning the last days and have become immune to any mention of Jesus Christ coming back.
If one considers all the false prophecies of the Jehovah's Witnesses up to the date setting of Harold Camping heralding the coming of the Lord, it is a natural reaction to start rejecting any talk of the end times.
But is this how the Lord Himself wants us to be ?
On what basis did you just answer that question? I submit that any attitude other than being expectant of His return is based on personal opinion that is shaped by history (as noted above), false doctrine and peer pressure. A popular verse about date setting ("But of that and hour knoweth no man...but my Father only" Matthew 24:36), is used to discount the plethora of scripture, God's word, on the very subject of prophecy. In fact Jesus goes on to say "Watch therefore: for you know not the hour your Lord doeth come." and "Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as you think not, the Son of man cometh." Matthew 24:42&44. We are to reject date setting but absolutely be responsive to the many scriptures given us about the season in which we live.
Jesus Himself rebuked the religious leaders of His day for not recognizing the time in which they lived. They ignored the prophecies about the suffering Messiah (His first appearance that started at Bethlehem and ended shortly after the cross and resurrection. All of which were prophesied about in the bible.) Instead they, like many Jews today, focused on His coming in power to rule and reign over the earth, which isn't to occur until His return. He said to those religious leaders"...When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red. And in the morning, It will be foul weather for the sky is red and lowering. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but ye can not discern the signs of the times?" Matthew 16:2-3
So don't fall into the camp of folk who dismiss any study of our Lord's return. 2 Peter 3:3-4 tells us this; "Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lust, and saying, Where is the promise of His coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation."
God knew ahead of time how the devil would create an atmosphere of rejection concerning discerning the times in which the Lord would return. Don't be a scoffer.
